The Tourist Lublin application contains
an information module with practical tips on atractions ofLublin, current events, accommodation and gastronomy.
The second module is
an AR module. Thanks to the augmented reality technology, it virtually recreates the iconic parish church of st. Michael the Archangel and the water tower from former Bernardyński Sq. The 3D models of buildings are embeded in their former locations and they reflect the real size of monuments.
Both reconstructed buildings served important functions in the former Lublin. For five centuries, the parish church was the most important Catholic church in Lublin. Its body filled today’s Po Farze Square. The temple was expanded and modified several times. This is what the Tourist Lublin application shows. The user can observe the shape of the parish church in its five scenes, from the 13th to the 19th century. What’s more interesting – it can be visited inside!
The water tower from the end of the 19th century supplied Lublin with drinking water for 50 years. Its shape, stylized as a turret, was decorated with neo-Gothic elements. The tower used to appear on postcards and was an important landmark in the city.
The application is based on GPS navigation. The AR module is equipped with a map which, based on the user’s location, guides him to two places where 3D models are available. The virtual model can be loaded after scanning the tracker placed on a dedicated plate located in the city space. The application, via the smartphone’s camera, generates a three-dimensional virtual image and overlays it on the real surroundings in camera mode. The application has facilities for people with disabilities.
The application is available for mobile devices with AR Core support. List of smartphones with
Android and iOS.
