Palace complex in Tomaszowice

In 1916 the owner of Tomaszowice dies, leaving my wife and 8 children. From 1924, the school was moved to rooms in all fours and to private homes of the owners. There is a memory that in September 1939, during the bombing of Lublin, the court park in Tomaszowice sheltered the carts that transported Jan Matejko’s painting “The Battle of Grunwald” as well as other works of art. During the war, the manor house housed a German hospital. When the Germans left the palace, vandals crept into it, destroying and looting it. Many historic and valuable species of trees for fuel were also cut down. According to a family legend, a white chestnut tree was cut out, which was to be planted by King Stanisław August Poniatowski. Ostromęccy lived in the palace until 1944, then all goods in Tomaszowice were nationalized and the family had to move out. A primary school was installed in the building, which was located here until 2010. The first renovation of the building took place in the 1960s. At that time, the portico was removed from the west and the door openings were changed to window openings. Another renovation took place in 1968-1972. The portico from the east, the parapet walls were removed, the windows and doors were replaced, the first floor above the wings and the annex from the south of the building were added. Currently, the palace is in private hands.
