Castle ruins in Zawieprzyce

The history of the castle in Zawieprzyce dates back to the 16th century. Probably already at that time there was a defensive castle here, built on a picturesque hill in the fork of the Bystrzyca and Wieprz rivers. During its existence, it frequently changed owners – among them were the Firlej family and Atanazy Miączyński, who was a friend of King John III Sobieski. Amongst others, the Nobel Prize winner Maria Curie-Skłodowska, who visited the castle during her holidays, is connected with the castle in Zawieprzyce.
